Building our skills partnership
The AluK Academy is now part of the Building Our Skills Campaign. BOS has a range of campaigns running designed to help attract new people to the industry and to retain key staff already in place as a way of bridging the widening skills gap.

Building Our Skills

Building Our Skills – Making Fenestration, Glass and Glazing a Career of Choice – is committed to bridging the growing skills gap faced by the industry by working closely with employers and other organisations to attract new entrants, and by upskilling the existing workforce to ensure it can meet future challenges and continue to prosper.

They have a wide range of campaigns, including working with the education sector to make youngsters aware of the Fenestration Industry as a career of choice; with the military to engage ex-service personnel, and raising awareness of the benefits to business of a more diverse workforce to show our industry as a home for everyone. AluK is a major advocate of Building Our Skills and we work closely with them in partnership across a wide range of initiatives.

Building Our Skills operates three academies which we support:

Inspiring Talent
Academy

Practical Training Academy

Sales
Academy

All the academies are designed to help upskill existing industry employees to encourage them to truly choose Fenestration as a career of choice, not just a job for now.

Building Our Skills also runs a mentoring programme for the industry, details can be found here.

Their aim is to inform, encourage, support and inspire.

Inspiring the future

Young people aspire to be what they see around them in their everyday life but it’s difficult to aspire to a future that you never see and don’t know exists.

Inspiring the Future believe that every young person in our country, wherever they live, whatever their parents/carers’ circumstances, whatever school they go to, should have the opportunity to hear first-hand about jobs and the world of work.

Inspiring the Future show young people exciting futures. They give them the opportunity to meet a wide range of role models doing interesting, exciting jobs to inspire and motivate them. And they help them to understand that by aiming high, working hard and making an effort in school or college they can realise their dreams.

AluK has an obligation to try and attract new and exciting talent into the fenestration sector and make sure they remain in the industry and we are pleased to partner with Inspiring the Future.
